Brutalised 16-year-old awaits end of CHRAJ’s investigation

Lawyer for the 16-year-old boy who was assaulted by two military personnel in Tamale for allegedly stealing a mobile phone says the victim is anxiously waiting for the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to end its investigation on the matter.

Francis Sosu said the victim; Christopher Kombian expects CHRAJ to recommend serious sanctions to be meted out to the military men.

Kombian appeared before CHRAJ on June, 13 to give his personal account of circumstances leading to his unfortunate assault.

Commenting on his client’s encounter, Sosu said: “today’s account actually brought out very serious and interesting angles to this story that we never knew.”

“For me it is very interesting to know his personal account which he gave today and which I believe is going to be borne by the eventual conclusive report,” he added.

Considering the weight of damage caused to the boy, Sosu said: “I consider this as a major offense that requires a major penalty.”

On his part, Kombian who could barely put out a complete sentence had one wish; “I myself would want them to be sacked.”

The fact-finding interview by CHRAJ is expected to continue on June 15 after which the Commission will have to put out its recommendation.

CHRAJ began probing into the matter after it was petitioned by the family of the victim in April 2016 following Kombian’s appearance on the Joy FM Super Morning Show.
