Most producers do not respect actors – Abeiku Sagoe.. Source: Abrantepa.com
Veteran actor, Abeiku Sagoe has observed that most movie producers have no respect for actors.
According to him, he stopped accepting scripts after he was unable to endure how unfairly actors were treated.
Though he did not throw more light on such acts, Mr Sagoe indicated that he was comfortable writing scripts, producing movies and starring in his productions.
“I stopped acting for people long ago. I write my script and produce myself. I stopped basically because sometimes you get to the level when you don’t appreciate the treatment of actors. Most of the producers do not respect actors. It got to a point I felt I could no longer stand it,” he said on Radio XYZ’s Arts in View with Daavi Esi.
Abeiku Sagoe however stated that he has starred in a movie for Abdul Salam Mumuni adding that he will consider acting for people if it is worth it.
On the issue of movie directors and producers opting for young actors to play roles of the elderly, Mr Sagoe described it as unprofessional.
He believes if film is a representation of what happens in the society, then the right things must be done.
“If it’s a character for an old person, an old person plays it. If it’s for a young person, a young person plays it. This thing that we’re doing here in Ghana where young people play the role of an elderly is not professional,” he said.
Some productions of Abeiku Sagoe include Back Home from Justice, A Knock from Inside, Samori, Avenger and Nemesis.
In 2014, Nemesis was selected for exhibition at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival.
