Standoff between Kaizer Chiefs and player Siboniso Gaxa could be headed to court

Siboniso Gaxa could be headed for a showdown with his employers Kaizer Chiefs in court.

The 32-year-old defender was shown the door when Chiefs began a major clear-out with the release of 20 players from Naturena last week.
The club indicated that Gaxa’s contract‚ which was said would expire next month (July)‚ would not be renewed.
Gaxa‚ however‚ indicated that the gloves are off and he will likely meet his former club in court as he evaluates his legal options in the aftermath of the dramatic release of players at Naturena.
The former Bafana Bafana defender argues that his contract with the club would only reach its expiry date on June 30‚ 2018‚ and not next month as the club allegedly claims.
His agent Glyn Binkin would not give Times Media Digital an elaborated response and preferred to send an SMS that read: “I have no comment on this matter except to say that the truth will prevail.”
Chiefs indicated that they would meet fire with fire‚ but admitted they had not received any communication from Gaxa nor his agent since the club announced that his contract would not be renewed.
“We have no issues if people want to go to court‚ we have said that from the beginning‚” Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung told Times Media.
“This is a free country‚ a democratic country. Anyone with any problems has a right to challenge us through any channels.
“We have not heard anything from any players or agents. We cannot respond to speculation that comes through the media.”
